The handcarved details of the four seasons and decorative design is enhanced by a desirable weathered finish. It features a thickly cast pedestal and a shallow lead lined dish, surrounded by a lattice pattern to the edge of the bowl.

Four seasons

The Four Seasons are seen in ancient Greek mythology as the figures in charge of the four seasons of mankind. In ancient Rome, the four seasons were portrayed by the Horae, Greco-Roman goddesses of the seasons, natural order, and have sacred significance.

Each season is characterised by a meaningful figure or statue that bears traditional identifiable symbols. The popularity of these figures peaked during the Roman period and again during the Renaissance.
