Object Description

A wonderful pale blue antique Talish rug, woven in the late 19th century and full of charm and character! The all over floral shrub design is well spaced out and very interesting with the weaver starting the rugs pattern with four large hooked Boteh motifs, then changing to the flowers in the main field.  This quirky and non symmetrical pattern is what makes Caucasian rugs so appealing, this tribal weaver used patterns from memory and natural dyed wool from the plants and beetles. The ivory minor borders lift the palette too, the main red border uses lovely faded greens and soft pink tones on the geometric motifs.

Object Condition

Condition is very nice, with a medium high wool pile, all professionally cleaned and both fringes secured.  A stunning antique rug, over 130 years old and ready to be used with our underlay, which prevents movement and adds body to the rug.  This new underlay also preserves the rug, as wear more often happens from the rug slipping around on the floor.
