This fine Tekke carpet is a great example of its type with a light terracotta field, remarkable quality and soft durable wool.
Tekke Main carpets are instantly recognised for their distinctive elephant foot patterns, especially the early pieces with their bold and visually arresting drawings. Woven in the 19th century by the highly skilled weavers of the Tekke tribes in Turkoman in Central Asia, Tekke rugs are highly sought-after for their superb quality wool and use of natural dyes in their rich colours. They are much appreciated as one of the finest weavings from the region.
Their beauty is undeniable and they are timeless treasures to blend in a wide variety of spaces.
It is in wonderful condition, still retaining all its original borders and its long kilim fringes at both ends. A rare feature for a rug dating late 19th century.
