Object Description
A good 18th century Dutch tobacco jar, having a domed inlaid and fitted mahogany lid that is centered with a raised drum handle. The body comprises of alternate vertical staves of ebony, rosewood and boxwood and are all secured at the top and base by a narrow brass band. The interior also has a separate conforming lead lid to keep the tobacco from drying out. The whole is raised on three turned feet, fitted to a ring turned mahogany base, and has an excellent colour and patination.
