Object Description
A rare 18th century mahogany figural fescue of traditional form, but with a carved figure, possibly St. Catherine standing full length, above a rounded and shaped inlaid section terminating in a faceted end, which makes it an extremely interesting item of treen. Fescues were pointers in schools for teaching children their letters, particularly in a dame’s school. This lovely example is a serious collector’s item, having a good rich colour and patination
