Object Description
A good quality 19th century coquilla nut go to bed, having a bone finial for the match above an attractive body in two screw sections, that reveal a vacant interior for the storage of matches. The base is sanded for striking purposes. These were used in place of candles (which were expensive) and gave you enough light to go to bed. They were also used to melt sealing wax for letters and documents. The whole has a good rich colour and patination.
