Object Description
A small figured walnut go to bed, having a fitted top with a brass finial to receive the match and a well turned body in two sections that reveals a vacant interior for the storage of matches. It has a worn sanded base for striking purposes.
These were used in place of candles (which were expensive) and gave you enough light to go to bed. They were also used to melt sealing wax for letters and documents. The Whole has a good rich colour and patination.
