Object Description

An interesting mahogany multi faceted Isle of Man money box, which has a boxwood inlay depicting the flag of the Isle of Man, with three legs running clockwise in the usual form, below the aperture to receive the coins. The underside has a removable lid with a sliding catch to remove the coins. Each faceted side is edged with a narrow strip of mahogany stringing, which adds to the quality and workmanship of the maker.

The Isle of Man flag has been the official flag since 1st. December 1932 and is based on he Manx coat of arms, which dates back to the 13th. century. The three legs are known in Manx as ny tree cassyn (the three legs). The triskelion is an ancient symbol used by the Mycenaeans and the Lycians.
