Object Description
A most tactile and unusual solid boxwood pie peel, having a slightly curved blade with a protruding handle and a small suspension string hole. The whole has a lovely colour, as often found in boxwood items, with a slight burn discolouration to the underside and retaining a pleasing patination. The long handled peels, 4-6 feet, were used by baker’s for large ovens, if between 8-10 inches they were used for loaves and 6-8 inches for pies in smaller ovens, which were often found at the sides of large open hearths.
