Object Description

An unusual well grained Karelian birch desk top ink well in the form of a lady’s hat, having a brass ribbon bow and a raised central section with a hinged lid enclosing a brass mounted glass container for the ink. The whole has a most attractive design, a lovely honey colour and patination throughout.

Karelian birch trees are found in the autonomous area of Finland and items made of this timber have a lovely grain and colour as in this instance.
