Object Description

A late 19th century boxwood plumber’s chase wedge, also known as a glut, stamped A. & E. Cooke on both sides of the blade. These items were made of hardwood and used by plumbers for dressing sheet lead into an angle, not to be confused with sailor’s seam rubbers. A similar item was also used by a woodsman for opening up splits in logs.
