Object Description

A good French early 19th century screw type nutcracker of traditional form in burr boxwood, which has a circular opening to receive the hazelnut. The screw section is made of plain boxwood, and is of an identical colour and patination. Eating hazelnuts was a popular pastime at functions and at theatrical performances. The whole has an excellent honey colour, grain and patination.
