Object Description

A good elm bread peel, which come in various sizes, used for removing loaves from brick ovens. The long handled ones, 4-6 feet, were used by baker’s for large ovens and if between 8-10 inches, they were used for loaves as in this instance and 6-8 inches, for pies in smaller ovens, which were often found at the sides of large open hearths. The handle of this example has a suspension hole for hanging on the wall. The whole retains an excellent colour, grain and patination.
