Object Description

A good oak pie peel, which come in various sizes, used for removing pies from brick ovens. The long handled ones, 4-6 feet, were used by baker’s for large ovens and if between 8-10 inches, they were used for loaves and 6-8 inches, as in this instance, for pies in smaller ovens, which were often found at the sides of large open hearths. The handle of this example is carved with the initials A.E. and has a suspension hole for hanging on the wall. The whole retains an excellent colour, grain and patination.
