Object Description
A good sycamore pie peel, which come in various sizes, used for removing pies from brick ovens. The long handled peels, 4-6 feet, were used by baker’s for large ovens and if between 8-10 inches, they were used for loaves and 6-8 inches, as in this instance, for pies in smaller ovens, which were often found at the sides of large open hearths. The shaped handle of this example has a suspension hole for hanging on the wall. The whole has a pleasing colour and retains a patination.
