Object Description

A Georgian boxwood apothecary’s pill silverer, having a screw top with a protruding band, to secure the removable lid. The whole, raised on a concave stem and stepped rounded foot, has a most pleasing colour and well used patination.

These pill silverers were used by apothecaries, having made their pills, they would be moisturised with mucilage of acacia and then put in these containers with a gold, silver leaf or colouring, gently rolling the pills within, which would coat them ready for storage in a bottle or jar.
