Object Description
A small and delightful late 18th century beech pie peel, having an oval and rounded blade with a turned handle. The long handled ones, 4-6 feet, were used by baker’s for large ovens and if between 8-10 inches, they were used for loaves and 6-8 inches, as in this instance, for pies in smaller ovens, which were often found at the sides of large open hearths. The whole has an excellent shaded colour and patination.
