Object Description
A fine quality William IV Period 19th century two section lignum vitae go to bed in both heart and sap wood, which has an unusual feature on the top section to strike the match, comprising of two circular sanded discs. The top one, which is sprung, moves up and down on a short spindle that grips the match head and when pulled out would create friction which lights the match. The lid, with carved tulip petal decoration, unscrews to reveal a vacant interior to store the matches. It has an excellent colour, grain and patination.
