Object Description

A super cool and rare coloured pale blue/grey background on this antique Ushak from Anatolia (Turkey). Woven around 1890-1900 we can see the large scale geometric floral designs which make Ushaks desirable and famous today with collectors and interior designers to furnish homes with. Large leaf designs and bold medallions on this all over pattern, which make it very easy to place in any room. The border is deep and rich red with famous orange, purple and sludgy green dyes used frequently in Ushak carpets from this period.

The wool pile is thick and high throughout and woven on a woollen foundation this is a loose weave that is typical with rugs from this region. The palette of dyes and design can make you feel this is a contemporary carpet woven recently! when in fact dating at around 120 years old it is remarkable they wove rugs which have stood the test of time, and these timeless colours are used today for interiors.

We would happily welcome you contacting us to request a home visit, having visited customers in their own homes for over 30 years.
