Object Description
A lovely soft red background on this open design antique Ushak carpet, using delicate pinks and muted greens with pale blues for the vines. A wonderful teal blue toned border compliments the overall look to create a fantastic decorative carpet. Dating from circa 1880-1890 the dyes have mellowed beautifully and this is why decorative carpets from Anatolia are so desirable and collectable. Ushak’s were woven in Western Anatolia which was one of the largest rug production areas since the Ottoman Empire. Their designs tend to be more open than Persian rugs and use soft natural dyes. The faded green border colour works so well with the soft reds and muted golden tones.
