Object Description

Wow! This Ushak is a true delight for the eyes! The design and colour palette are quite magnificent, full of early dyes from the late 19th century with a wide border using a fabulous large leaf design.  The gorgeous pale green central motif with flame like golden leaves surrounding it all on an off-white to light grey tone background.  The pale blues and greens are a particular highlight and would be wonderful to scheme fabrics with for a room.  Please view all the additional images to see the colours up close, but really this carpet needs to be viewed with the naked eye, as it looks better in the flesh so to speak.  If you would like to request a home visit or showroom visit we would love to show it to you soon.

Object Literature

Ushak’s were woven in Western Anatolia which was one of the largest rug production areas since the Ottoman Empire.  Their designs tend to be more open than Persian rugs and soft dyes are not uncommon.  Often younger Ushaks or Oushaks will be rich red in colour and use bolder geometric designs.  This Anatolian carpet has an almost contemporary feel to it and would work in a modern space as well as traditional.  We clean every carpet before offering it for sale and make sure the ends and fringes are secured.

Object Condition

A good medium height wool pile on this rare Ushak, with some areas of minor restoration in places. The majority of the carpet is original and looking very good for its age of around 140 years old.
