A set of 12 antique silver soup plates of plain design with shaped reed border and shallow bowl centre. The rims are hand engraved with a crowned cypher.
Total weight 5605 grams, 180.2 troy ounces.
Diameter 25.7 cm.
Austrian silver marks for Vienna 1857-59 (1 later).
Maker Franz Schiffer.
Marks. 11 plates stamped with the Austrian Hungarian wheel mark, “A” for Vienna. 7 plates stamped below the rim, dated 1857. 4 plates stamped above the rim, dated 1859. Maker Franz Schiffer. The 12th plate is identical, made later to match, by M & K.

Franz Schiffer, Vienna silversmith, active 1827-54, supplier to the Imperial Royal Court. On Franz’s death Franziska and her son Eduard continued the company as Schiffer Franzisca und Sohn. Franziska was granted the title Hof-Gold-und-Silberarbeiter and the royal concession as Hoflierant.
