Object Description

Art Deco Period Pendant,of bold Moderniste design, formed as a panel of Black Galalith of diminishing concentric circles reminiscent of a gramophone record mounted on a square silvered metal plaque.Suspended from a silver chain of interlocking square linking.
Galalith is an early organic based man made material,Formed from a mixture of Casein,a protein found in milk with formaldehyde.

Object History

The design of this pendant represents an example of ‘Machine Age’ design,durring the late 1920s & 1930s the decorative arts were increasingly influenced by the advances in science, manufacturing & an almost obsession with speed & new forms of travel.
The Bauhaus in Germany & The UMA-Union Artistes Moderne in Paris were at the forefront of this school of design.
