Object Description
Art Nouveau Baccarat crystal vase with ormolu base
French, c. 1905
Height 32cm, diameter 14cm
This stunning Baccarat glass vase is accompanied by an intriguing ormolu base. The crystal vase has a rounded body, which culminates in a long polylobed flared neck and a flared base. The vase is covered with engraved intaglio decoration, with the designs resembling chestnut leaves and fruits.
The vase is held within an Art Nouveau-style gilt-bronze frame. Like the engraved glass, the ormolu base features foliate-style decorative elements, most notably the two climbing side supports which hold the vase in place. These sinuous floral designs are a hallmark of the Art Nouveau style. The contrast between the clear glass and the shining gilt bronze is exquisite to view.
On the underside of the base, a rubbed Baccarat mark can be seen.
The Baccarat firm has been making extraordinary pieces of glassware this vase for nearly 300 years, serving a network of elite clientele. As such, this stunning vase is a piece of Baccarat history, that would be sure to suit any home.
