Object Description

This attractive Bidjar carpet is a great recreation of 19th Century examples, finely hand woven with vegetable dyed colours and handspun wool in the last 25 years, so the colours have nicely aged. The drawing is well proportioned and spacious in relation to its format. The terracotta field compliments beautifully the array of colour combination framed by a wide ivory border. A wonderful example with a modern twist to compliment a variety of spaces.

Object History

Antique Bidjar carpets from north west Persia are famed amongst Persian tribal village rugs for the quality of their tight precise weaves and often dazzling interaction of their designs and colours. Bidjar is situated in a corridor between the borders of Persia, Anatolia and the Caucasus so has a weaving tradition that encompasses a varied mix of cultural influences. This can be seen in the broad range of styles and patterns in Bidjar carpets which makes them unique and challenging in trying to distinguish them from rugs from other regions.
