Note: Further research has now shown that this chest is attributable to Gillows of Lancaster as  Illustrations in “Gillow Furniture Designs 1760 -1800” by Lindsay Boynton Colour Illustration 11 “Commode chest of drawers, satinwood and purplewood ( See Susan Stuart’s 2 volumes – Blackie is quoted as saying Purplewood often confounded as Kingwood and Violetta ) with French feet and the characteristic Gillow handles; cf. Fig 118 dated 1789. The black and white sketch from the Gillows Work Books at 118 conforms almost exactly to the dimensions of this chest with the slightly overhanging top, the drawer dimensions graduated at 5″, 6”. 7″ & 8″ correspond as does the height at 3ft 01/2″
