Object Description

This unusual mask reflects the distinctive sculptural features of the north-eastern Hemba. It was collected in Karambare in the 1930s by the Roman physician Dr. R. Sulsenti, who was practicing in the region at the time and later acquired by Alberto Galaverni, who formed his collection with the support of his friend Franco Monti. It was published in 1978.
