Austrian bronze Orientalist sculptural lamp

The impressive cold-painted bronze lamp is expressive of the taste that prevailed in Austria during the first decades of the twentieth century. The lamp is in the Orientalist style and depicts a figurative scene: as man sits with his back to a brick wall beneath a rug raised on a frame that serves as a sunshade. The man, who drinks tea, sits beside a low table with a kettle. The bronze is intricately cast, and the cold-painted colour palette is rich and vibrant. The piece is stamped ‘AUSTRIA’.
