Object Description
Austrian Orientalist figurative lamp in cold painted bronze
Austrian, c. 1910
Height 30cm, width 25cm, depth 15cm
This charming bronze lamp is crafted in the style that prevailed in Vienna during the early twentieth century. The lamp is crafted from cold-painted bronze and depicts an Orientalist subject matter: a man, perhaps a vendor of goods, sits amidst his Middle Eastern or North African wares—vases, tables, sculptures, and rugs—within a stall ‘built’ from bamboo and covered with a straw roof. The bronze throughout is superbly cast in a naturalistic manner and brightly cold-painted.
