Object Description
Baroque style bronze and ormolu cherub mantel clock
French, late 19th Century
Height 69cm, width 35cm, depth 26.5cm
This dramatic and expressive mantel clock is a fine example of the Baroque style. The clock is crafted from gilt and patinated bronze as well as marble, and it features a painted metal clock drum. The veined marble base supports a deftly cast gilt bronze flowing, folded fabric, which supports the metal spherical clock drum (with gilt hour marks and hands); the gilt bronze fabric also holds two patinated bronze putti, the upper one raising overhead a gilt bronze torch.
The bottom of the base is signed ‘E.B’.
