Object Description

This is a fine example of model # 509 from Johann Baptist Beha, the most prestigious of Black Forest cuckoo clock makers, dating from c.1895.

The beautifully carved shelf case features a butterfly on the roof gable. The roof has a carved shingle effect. All carvings are to the highest standard, as would be expected of a Beha cuckoo clock.

The eight day twin fusee movement has wooden plates and is completely original, including the bellows and pendulum.

The back door has a hand-written 509 on it, which corresponds to the model number in the catalogue of around 1895. It also bears a sticker for Camerer Cuss, a London-based clockmaker who imported a large number of high quality Black Forest clocks into Great Britain.

Replaced hand-carved ivy leaf bone hands. All original Roman numerals.

The movement is to be overhauled and guaranteed for 3 years.
