Object Description
FINE early 19th century large size bow-fronted chest of drawers very much in the manner of GILLOWS of LANCASTER. 4 long drawers with three secret drawers in the freize which are accessed by an ingenius wooden locking system. The frieze is of multi reed design. The chest stands on large heavy duty swept out bracket feet with a stepped base. The drawers are all cock beaded with old but not original oval brass plate handles. The four long drawers are ash and pine lined whilst the 3 secret drawers are all mahogany lined. Incredibly the chest has NO splits to the ends or top which is a testimont to how well it was made. Highest quality cabinetmaking throughout.
The chest is in very good clean condition and has mellowed to a lovely light mahogany colour. Original finish and patination with a waxed finish.
