Object Description
A pair of vintage ‘Monete’ cufflinks in 18ct yellow gold by Bulgari, circa 1990. These cufflinks are each designed with an ancient silver Gallic coin in a 18ct yellow gold rounded bezel setting and with swivel hinged torpedo backs. The underside of each coin is engraved on the setting with details of the coins.

The iconic Bulgari Monete jewels were launched mid 1960s and driven by Nicola Bulgari, a keen coin collector. The collection expanded quickly as the reception was so positive that they never looked back and still create this range today. The concept of setting coins into jewellery goes as far back as the Roman empire but it had a resurgence in popularity in the late 19th century. Bulgari have great respect for the historic value and heritage of the ancient coins used in their jewels, they refer to them as ‘Gemme Nummarie’ (Coin gems) and it is an important factor that in every jewel the coins are set carefully so that they are not damaged in any way. Each coin has its information engraved into the jewel so it’s importance and history are not lost.
