Object Description
A very fine, Byzantine, bronze belt buckle featuring a hunting scene in relief. The buckle features a kidney-shaped plate with a button applied to the right side and two u-shaped hinge fittings. Within the plate is a decorative scene, in relief, of a standing warrior fighting a leaping lion. The warrior pierces the animal with his lance or spear. Underneath the lion is another fallen warrior. The scene fills the majority of the plate and is framed by a notched border. The reverse of the plate features two central attachment lugs which are pierced.
