Object Description
A Byzantine bronze round component of a hanging candelabrum, featuring a symmetrical geometric openwork motif. The disc would have been held by its three bronze chains, which are still intact here. Candles would have been placed in the round circles of the disc, providing light and illumination to the environment.
During the Roman Empire and the Byzantine Empire, bronze household items, such as this beautiful hanging candelabrum, were possed only by higher social classes.
