Object Description

A fine Byzantine gold pendant featuring a rhomboid centrepiece, set with a carnelian stone carved in a biconvex shape. The pendant is bifacial and views identically on both sides. The rhomboid bezel is decorated with dainty gold granules framing the piece with a gold loop attached at the top for suspension.

Date: Circa 5th-10th century AD

Object History

Formerly in the private collection of a Japanese gentlemen (deceased), formed between 1970s-2010s.

Object Condition

Good condition, some granules now missing from age, some residue around the precious stone from securing it in place.
