Byzantine Gold Ring with Garnet

Object Description

A Byzantine gold ring featuring a round wire-like hoop with a gold framed bezel, the ring was later added to the bezel in antiquity. To the centre is a garnet cabochon inset embellished with delicate gold granules around its perimeter. Encrustation to the bezel’s front and reverse.

From a private London based ancient jewellery collection, 1970’s.

Object Condition

Good condition, repairs to the right of the ring. The garnet has some surface scratch marks and the bezel is slightly deformed.
