Ca Mau Shipwreck Porcelain Cup with Floral Motif

Object Description

A porcelain cup from the Ca Mau shipwreck featuring an everted mouth and a low foot with a brown exterior. The interior is enriched with a flower motif encompassed by two concentric circles. The scene is framed by a boarder band along the rim of a geometric pattern.

Date: Early 18th century AD
Period: Qing Dynasty

Object History

From the Ca Mau shipwreck, which sank between 1723-1735 and was recovered in 1998. Ex Sotheby’s, Amsterdam, 29-31 January 2007.

Object Condition

Very fine condition, stable crack down one side and minor chip to the rim, some dulling of glaze and surface pitting due to age and seawater exposure. The item reference number is written by the previous owner to the base along with the official Ca Mau sticker and three various stickers.
