Object Description
A Very Good Quality Mid 19th Century Camphor Wood Military Campaign Chest In Two Parts, With Original Brass Bound Decoration And Original Flush Fitted Brass Handles To Two Short And Three Long Drawers, Raised On Old Turned Bun Feet.
As the name suggests, Military Campaign Chests were originally made for use by senior members of the armed forces and therefore their design was such that they were easy to transport from location to location, without getting damaged, often at short notice.
Features which are specific to this purpose are things such as the two part construction for ease of movement, the flush fitting brass handles to avoid them snagging on things and the brass bound decoration to try and avoid the corners of the item getting overly bumped and bruised.
This is a great example of its type, still in relatively good condition despite it having obviously lived the life of service you would expect. As mentioned in the description the feet are old, although we cannot guarantee there originality as they have been fixed in place as opposed to the more common feature of them screwing in and out. That said by far the majority of these types of chest now have no feet at all. All of the brasswear is original as well which is a nice feature.
As with all items we offer for sale this campaign chest has been attended to in our workshops by our highly trained, skilled, antique furniture restorers, where it received a natural wax polish ensuring that it is fit for immediate placement within the home or office.
