Object Description
A fine Canaanite bronze statuette of a warrior goddess standing on a columnar base with a concave terminal. The deity is depicted extending her right arm forward with her fist clenched and pierced (now blocked), to possibly have once held a weapon. Her left hand is placed on the abdomen. She is further adorned with two crossed straps across her chest, possibly baldrics, and a waist belt. The figure is portrayed stylistically, with a slender body and the head rendered as a flat round disc, pinched out at the front to form the nasal bridge. Bronze statuettes of idols and deities, such as this fine example, would have been placed in graves, temples or private shrines for devotion. The piece has been mounted on a custom made stand.
