Object Description
A fine, ancient Egyptian, Canaanite, steatite scarab depicting falcon-headed figures and an ankh. The obverse features a stylised head and clypeus. Short horizontal notches close to the edges divide the otherwise smooth domed body into a prothorax and elytra. Incisions around the sides of the scarab depict the folded legs of the insect. The reverse is incised with a group of three hatched hieroglyphs. Two kneeling falcon-headed figures flank the central hieroglyph raising their arms in adoration. Between the two forms is a symbol that could be a stylised representation of the ankh. The scarab has been pierced longitudinally for suspension.
