Object Description
Carpet of the Holy Family with St Anne and St John in the style of Branzino
Persian, 20th Century
Height 90cm, width 62cm
The vibrant carpet has been skillfully woven by Persian artisans in the 20th Century. The design is inspired by Bronzino’s (Italian, 1503-1572) painting from 1545/1546, now housed in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, Austria.
St Mary is depicted in the center of the painting lovingly holding the infant Jesus. Reaching his hand towards Jesus is the infant St John, who in later life becomes one of his disciples. St Anne and St Joseph stand on either side of St Mary closing observing the figure of Jesus.
Plush, polychrome wool threads are carefully and skillfully woven to recreate the vibrant and impactful composition created by the Italian Mannerist painter in the 16th century. Long, cream-colored tassels are woven on the two ends of the carpet, adding an elegant feature to the overall design.
This high quality Persian carpet depicts an important Renaissance painting and would make an exceptional floor or wall covering for one’s interior space.
