Object Description
Circa 1890 an exhibition quality carved mahogany chair in the manner of Giles Grendey, the profusely carved chair with carved top cresting rail with foliate carving beneath, pierced carved splat with foliate carving C scrolls and S scrolls, towards the base there’s a solid arched carved as are the two uprights, dropped in navy needlepoint seat, simple seat rail with dragooning to the front and sides, the shaped apron which is carved front and sides, cabriole back legs finishing with a pad foot, with foliate carving, the front legs are most elegant cabriole legs with almost all the carving techniques possible, foliate, floral incorporated into the legs and finished on a well-formed foot with carved oval to the facing, foliate carving up the facing and C scrolls to the back.
