Object Description
A stunning and unique hand painted framed porcelain tile in the aesthetic taste depicting a young girl seated on a grassy bank and holding a doll by renowned artist Catherine Vargas and dated 1877. Probably made at Doulton Lambeth Faience the rectangular tile is mounted in a gilded wood frame with a cut out to the back showing the artist monogram, date and marks for WP & G Phillips Art Pottery Studios at 359 Oxford Street, London. Catherine Vargas was a leading artist at Doulton Lambeth and worked for the Faience department and was also an artist who was regularly exhibited. This is a rare and exceptional work by her.
