Celtic Bronze Boar Statuette

Object Description

A standing Celtic boar statuette cast from bronze. The animal’s anatomical features have been naturalistic rendered including the snout, eyes and ears, one is now missing. The fur and the mane have been highlighted with small incised marks. This statuette is mounted on a custom-made stand.

Date: Circa 1st century BC – 1st century AD

Object History

‘The Ancient Menagerie Collection’ formerly the property of a Cambridgeshire lady, collected since the 1990s and acquired from auctions and dealers throughout Europe and the USA, now ex London collection.

Object Condition

Fine condition, some parts are worn from age and one of the ears is missing. Encrustation and patination are visible to the surface. Height without the stand 3.5cm
