Object Description

Charles Bevan (attributed). A Gothic Revival oak side chair with rounded details to the upper backrest rail flanked by shaped uprights with carved and ebonized zig-zag bands to the top, and carved triangular details within the carved roundels, and a pierced lower backrest. A-frame legs with rounded supports to the seat front, through tenon details, the ends with subtle carved decoration. Professionally re-upholstered in a quality tan leather.

This design has a similar feel to Charles Bevan’s registered reclining chair made under license by Marsh, Jones and Cribb.

See Gere, Charlotte and Whiteway, Michael ‘Nineteenth-Century Design’ London 1993, p. 113, plate 124.
