Object Description

Fine quality Charles I Derbyshire Oak Armchair, circa 1640.

The back panel with a single daisy on a stem with pomegranates issuing forth ,surmounted by an ‘egg and dart’ formal arch with ‘s’scroll uprights. Having a shaped and floral carved cresting with matching ear pieces over steeply downswept arms with scroll carved ends. Above finely detailed frieze rails joined by multi turned front uprights and original high stretchers. With period inventory brand to the front upright “GC’.

Similar Armchairs from the same workshop can be seen in both Haddon and Hardwick Hall. Derbyshire.

Object Condition

In excellent original condition. Retaining original height without excessive wear. of good colour and surface patination.
