Object Description

An early 20th century antique English stained glass window detailed with the Chatham Coat of Arms. This stained glass window is one of a series of panels we are selling from towns and cities on the coasts of the British Isles.

Once one of Britain’s most important dockyards, Chatham is located on England’s southeast coast, meeting the water at the River Medway and flowing out towards the North Sea. It is the birthplace of some of history’s most famous British ships including the 1737 HMS Victory sailed by Lord Nelson.

The Chatham Coat of Arms depicts a two sailing ships above a horizontal band known as a fesse, chequered with Gules red and Or gold, above a laurel wreath crossed with a sword and trident.

Chatham’s long-standing maritime heritage is reflected in this stunning window by the addition of an old English sailing ship, hand-painted in one individual pane to right centre.
