Object Description
Chinese agate, jade and rose quartz flower model in a cloisonné enamel pot
Chinese, 20th Century
Height 28cm, width 37cm, depth 25cm
Crafted in 20th century China, this delicate flower model embodies the centuries-long Chinese tradition of hardstone carving.
The pot is crafted using cloisonné enamelling, whereby thin metal wire patterns are filled with enamel paste and fired. Among the vibrant blue background is a sea of swirling green patterns, as well as a band of pink flowers. More prominent greenery frames the flowers and draws one’s attention to the pot. Four gilt feet support the piece.
‘Growing’ from the rock-filled planter is a rich flower composition. Thread-covered wires terminate with hardstone petals, arranged to depict a variety of flowers. Agate and rose quartz are used for the petals, while the stigmas are crafted from vivid beads beautifully standing out against the paler hardstone shades. Deep green jade is carved to depict leaves which complete the floral arrangement.
Celebrating the beauty of the natural world, this objet d’art would be an eye-catching addition to a space.
