Created during the nineteenth century, this elegant jardinière combines a Chinese cloisonné enamel body with finely cast French ormolu mounts, reflecting the period’s strong fascination with Chinoiserie and the fusion of Eastern craftsmanship with European decorative arts.
The enamel body is richly decorated with floral sprays, birds, and butterflies set against a vibrant turquoise ground.
Delicate gold wirework carefully outlines each motif, creating a finely detailed surface with remarkable clarity and decorative rhythm. Additional stylised borders and geometric friezes around the neck and shoulders further enrich the design, adding structure and visual complexity.
The form is enhanced by finely cast gilt bronze mounts, including a pierced gallery rim that adds both refinement and a sense of lightness. The sides are fitted with bold twin handles modelled as stylised dragons, their flowing, sculptural forms seamlessly integrated into the overall composition, adding a dramatic, exotic character.
